The CEGEP Vanier general manager in Montreal says that a recent Quebec climate investigation within the establishment may have had a deterrent effect on teachers.
Benoît Morin reports that the investigation has exacerbated tensions at Cégep Vanier, which has been under surveillance since last fall because of complaints that the war between Israel and Hamas have created a climate of insecurity on the campus.
The Ministry of Education published last week a report on the Dawson and Vanier colleges, which reveals that these establishments have little control over the content of the courses, including language courses focused on Palestinian culture.
The report indicates that the Quebec government should adopt a new law to regulate academic freedom in the college system.
Mr. Morin says, however, that it would be a mistake to create an environment where teachers self -censor and that the teaching staff must be trusted.
The report also claims that prayer rooms in colleges can promote radicalization and divisions between students, but Mr. Morin says he has not noted such phenomena at Cégep Vanier.
