The path of rupture France and Algeria is more than ever marked due to the brutal aggravation of the crisis between the two countries. Already very tense, relations between the two countries have deteriorated significantly in recent days with the measures taken by the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau against the Algerian diplomats in France.
Faced with this situation, Algeria has decided to reply. This Saturday, the manager of the French Embassy in Algiers was again summoned to the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the national community abroad.
“The manager of the French Embassy in Algeria was once again summoned today to the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the persistence of the obstacles encountered by the Algerian Embassy to Paris as for the delivery and recovery of diplomatic suitcases, in violation of international obligations of the French government,” said the department of Ahmed Attaf.
Algeria removes privileged access titles from French diplomats
The Ministry of Affairs then explains the reason for this summons, the second of its kind in less than 48 hours. “Initially limited to the Algerian Embassy in France, these obstacles have just been extended to the Algerian consular posts, despite the commitment made by the Quai d’Orsay to ensure that this measure is reconsidered,” he said.
In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced measures against French diplomats stationed in Algeria. “In strict application of the principle of reciprocity, the Director of Immunities and Diplomatic Privileges at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recovered all privileged access securities to Algerian ports and airports granted to the French Embassy in Algeria,” said the MAE.
On Thursday, the same manager was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which made him his “astonishment” following a decision by the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retaiulleau to “hinder the access of accredited agents of the Algerian Embassy in France to the reserved areas of the Parisian airports for the purposes of taking charge of diplomatic suitcases”. The Minister of Foreign Affairs indicated that it was a measure was taken by Retailleau, without consultation with the Quai d’Orsay.
