Another example, in Liège, Liège where the city decided to build new modern greenhouses for its horticulture school. “Initially, the building dates from the 60s” explains Yves Francken, the architect in charge of the project. “The old greenhouses of the school, were completely dilapidated, obsolete, presented lots of problems of leaks and infiltration. The new greenhouses are 1100 square meters. They are with a galvanized steel structure, we will have a control and a temperature management space by space, so the roofs will open automatically for ventilation.”
10 to 12 million euros per year to renovate Liège schools
Roland Léonard, the alderman of the works figures the cost of the work: “The total budget of greenhouses and the creation of classes is of more than 3.600,000 €, with a clean investment of the city of Liège of € 2,200,000. These are large investments for very useful institutions because horticultural schools in the Walloon Region are few, and it is a flagship of qualifying teaching of the city of Liège. The objective is to replace the old educational greenhouses which are very energy -consuming adapted to teaching.
“It is clear that during the holidays, we also obviously take advantage of the leave period, therefore from the absence of the students, to be able to initiate important sites in all our school buildings. This year, we have about twenty schools concerned by various work in security painting, in particular fire prevention, roofing work, boiler room.”
