Resumption of talks between Air Canada and its on -board agents

The two parties agreed to sit at the table to try to find common ground while the threat of a strike hovers.

Air Canada and the union representing 10,000 of its on -board agents must resume talks today in order to avoid a strike that could start in a week.

The Air Canada section of the Canadian Public Service Syndicate (SCFP) indicates that the two parties planned to return to the negotiating table on Friday, after its members voted 99.7 % in favor of a strike mandate.

This vote, which ended on Tuesday, means that on -board agents could disengage from August 16 at 0:01, provided that a notice of at least 72 hours is given.

The airline says it does not envisage for the moment to cancel or postpone flights, because it focuses on the conclusion of an agreement by then, while recalling that a vote of strike mandate is “a normal stage in the negotiation process”.

The SCFP also says it is optimistic about the possibility of avoiding a work stoppage, but first wishes to see how Air Canada reacts to its proposals for wage increases and the abolition of unpaid work.

The two parties have been engaged in contractual talks since the start of the year. The strike vote occurs after the conclusion of a conciliation process which has not made it possible to achieve an agreement.
