At least thirteen people were killed and twenty others injured when a bus transporting a mine workers fell into a ravine on Monday at dawn in the Iakoutie region, in the Russian Far East, the authorities of this region announced.
The driver would have lost control of the vehicle. The latter left the road before falling into a 25 -meter depth ravine, local officials said.
The accident occurred around 3:20 am (8:00 p.m. Swiss time, Sunday), said the regional interior ministry.
Images published by the authorities show the bus returned near a pond of muddy water, its wheels pointing to the sky, as well as a distorted metal barrier along the road above the ravine.
“The road accident occurred on the industrial and treatment factory factory and Denisovsky factory,” added the ministry.
This installation specializes in the extraction and treatment of coal. Investigators opened a procedure for criminal negligence.
Industrial accidents are frequent in Russia, surveys often involving insufficient security standards.
Local authorities have declared a day of mourning for Tuesday.
