Belgium is in the top 5 countries with the best control of airspace, according to a classification published on Friday Ryanair. The low -cost airline, on the other hand, criticizes several other countries where delays are the most important, for lack of adequate personnel and effective management.
The best air controllers were in Ireland, then in Slovakia, Denmark, the Netherlands and Belgium. The Irish carrier has thus identified 408 flight delays between January 1 and July 27 at Zaventem and Charleroi airports, which concerned 73,440 of his passengers.
At the other end of the ranking, we find France (38,477 delayed flights and 6.9 million passengers affected in almost seven months), ahead of Spain (22,686 flights and 4 million passengers) and Germany (10,686 flights, 1.9 million passengers).
For Ryanair, these significant delays contrast with the considerable improvement of the service provided by air controllers who are better managed and do not face a staff shortage. “If these states manage to properly manage and provide their air traffic control services and minimize delays, why could passengers not expect a similar service on the part of very well funded, but poorly managed air controllers, of France, Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom and Greece? Asks the airline.
Ryanair takes the opportunity to reiterate its appeal to the European Commission, already formulated, to “act urgently to reform the EU air traffic control services”. Its objective, as well as that of most European carriers, is to prevent national strikes from causing cascade effects on the whole of European traffic, purely and simply preventing the overflight of a country concerned by such an action.
According to another classification, published by Flightright, Charleroi Airport recorded the highest proportion of delays with 33.76 % of deferred flights (1,047 out of 3.101) in July alone. Brussels Airport followed with 30.64 % (2,645 delays out of 8,633 flights), while Liège was largely spared with only 6.68 % delays (53 out of 794).
On the cancellation side, Brussels Airport came first with 0.82 % flights removed (71), just ahead of Charleroi (0.81 %, or 25 flights out of 3.101). Liège has 3 out of 724 (0.38 %).
