In a joint press release, the Association of Canadian Distillators and the Distilled Spirittes Council of the United States indicate that the United States strong alcohol sales fell 66 % between March 5 and 30 April compared to the previous year.
Sales of Canadian and imported spirits have also decreased, resulting in a total decrease of 12.8 % of spirits of spirits over this period of almost two months compared to the previous year.
Alcohol withdrawn from the shelves
These statistics arise while several Canadian Prime Ministers firmly maintain the idea of buying Canadian and rejecting the comments of the United States Ambassador to Canada, Pete Hoekstra, who said on Monday at a conference that US President Donald Trump found “unpleasant” Canada, especially due to the prohibitions on American alcohol.
Several provinces have withdrawn American ray alcohol when Mr. Trump imposed customs duties and threatened to annex Canada, which has contributed to the sharp drop in sales from this country.
The Prime Minister of British Columbia, David Eby, stressed that Mr. Hoekstra’s words show that Canadian efforts to stand up to President Trump “bear fruit” and have encouraged the population to “persevere”.
