Scheduled for the end of January 2025, the #travaux on the Condroz road are finally completed

The road works necessary for the commissioning of line B2, Future Première Line Busway in Wallonia, enter their completion phase on the three major sections concerned, namely the Route du Condroz, the “Marco Polo” roundabout and the Botanical Terminus in Sart-Tilman, announce the TEC.

“The area will be fully reopened to traffic on Tuesday 17/07/2025. There will remain 3 marked areas to finalize concreting but without consequences on traffic. These structuring adjustments constitute a major advance as part of the new public transport network of Liège-Verviers put into service on April 28 and which will take on a new momentum with the commissioning of the future B2, in the coming weeks. These infrastructures aim to offer users faster, more reliable and more comfortable mobility, ”says the company.

Large work on the Condroz road

As a reminder, the interventions had started on April 5, 2024, in depth transforming the strategic axis of the Condroz route. The traffic bands were resized, the bus of descending bus to the scientific park was extended, the 4-band roads between Pré Aily and Beau Beech was extended thanks to the displacement of impetrants and public lighting, sidewalks cyclo-pitons secured on both sides of the roadway were created, 3 new light crossroads were fitted out (Beautiful Jardinière, Tennis Club Beautiful beech) and another (that of the meadow) has been transformed. The Sart-Tilman roundabout at Marco Polo has also been deeply transformed. Finally, Busway stations have been fitted out.

A modernized botanical terminus in SART-Tilman

In Sart-Tilman, the developments concerned the Busway stations (village, physics, polytech, white gravel, CHU, botany) as well as the development of the botanical terminus, which will host an electric charging cabin (pantograph) for electric buses as well as a rest and sanitary room for drivers.

Delay

These works, the end of which was scheduled for January 2025, unfortunately lagged behind for the following reasons, still justifies the company: “The complete renewal of the under-the-year and the foundation over 1.5 km; Additional requirements for SPW infrastructure; the connection of private pipes to new public infrastructure; The exceptional bad weather of spring 2024 impacted the progress of the site, extending the deadlines initially provided ”

These road works now completed, it is the turn of the equipment to be installed (installation of masts, bus shelters, dynamic signaling, terminals, etc.) during the summer.

Ultimately, the new B2 line will thus offer a high commercial speed, a priority for fires, high frequencies and dedicated arrangements, “it illustrates the AC’s ambition to raise the bus to the rank of credible alternative to the individual car. With the B2, the inhabitants of the region will benefit from a modern line, comfortable and connected to the other poles of the high performance network in connection with the Liège tram, ”concludes the company.
