Founded in 2013 by entrepreneur Xavier Niel, school 42 has become a global reference in computer education. Present in more than 30 countries, with more than 50 campuses, it has imposed itself by a radically different method: no teachers, no lectures, but a pedagogy by projects, based on autonomy, responsibility and mutual aid between peers.
Like other schools 42 in the world, CMA CGM launches its own in Marseille. “It is a school of the will. Each learner evolves at their own pace, in a demanding but benevolent environment, open 24/7. We learn by making it, by collaborating”summarizes Angelo-Gabriel Mikael, member of the management team of 42 Marseille.
A school open to all profiles
The Marseille campus is actually the second project of this type led by CMA CGM, owner of Provence. In 2023, the group initiated the opening of 42 Beirut, Lebanon. “”In Beirut, the answer was very strong. It was Rodolphe SaadĂ©, president of CMA CGM, who wanted Marseille to host a school 42 in turndetails the team member. C‘is an aligned project with our attachment to the territory and the inclusion by training. “
The French maritime transport giant mobilized its teams in record time – real estate, IT, legal, communication – in an unprecedented skills sponsorship to accelerate deployment.
The Marseille campus will take place in the old post Hotel, now the Grand Central, where is also Provencein the Marseille city center, a stone’s throw from Saint-Charles station. On 1,000 m² divided between the 1st and 2nd floors, future learners will evolve at the heart of a dynamic innovation ecosystem.
The training is completely free and without diploma. The only requirement: to be major. The school is aimed at a very wide audience, from 18 to over 70 years old, mixing school dropouts, retraining, break students, seniors and self -taught.
Admission is made via the famous “pools”, immersive and intensive sessions of 26 days, organized during the summer. First meeting on July 21, then it will be at the end of August and at the end of September.
At the end of these three sessions, 150 learners will be selected to join the first promotion in early November. “We do not test knowledge, but motivation, perseverance and the ability to work in a team. You have to be focused, enduring and determined.”
A avant-garde pedagogy
The common trunk of school 42 lasts on average 18 months, but everyone progresses at their own pace. Then, students can continue with specializations in cybersecurity, network architecture, artificial intelligence, etc. From the second year, the school offers alternations and internships.
“42 is 100% employability. And 80% of work -study students or trainees won a job offer at the end of their mission”, supports Angelo-Gabriel Mikael.
A partnership with France work will also support public employment and facilitate the remuneration of learners from the first year. The ambition of 42 Marseille is clear: offering a springboard to the digital professions, responding to the shortage of skills in the IT sectors, and strengthening equal opportunities through an open, innovative and free pedagogy. “School 42 is a world apart. A mold in which we enter to learn differently. It is a school of the 21st century, and Marseille needed it.”
