In total, Sid Ahmed Rezala will make three victims. The first, Isabel Peakea 20-year-old British student crosses her path on the Limoges-Paris night train on October 13, 1999. Two months later, on December 14, he attacks Corinne Cailleuxa 36 -year -old mother, also met on a train.
His third victim, Émilie Bazina student from Amiens does not correspond to the usual profile. Unlike the previous two, she did not meet him on a train or near a station, but during student evenings in the city’s university bars. He is the only one with whom he maintains an intimate relationship before killing her at home.
Why this so special murder?
After his arrest in 2000, Rezala entrusts a journalist that this crime is linked to deep resentment. Humiliated by Nadia, his daughter’s mother, he says he was invaded by a hatred that he could not lead against her. This anger, he internalized it. When he meets Émilie, he learns that she frequent two boys at a time. Seeing one of them cry with sorrow, he says he was submerged by his own injuriesand that is what would have triggered his act.

Rezala says he killed Émilie Bazin to “avenge” a young man whom he had seen in emotional distress because of her. He claims that he had not premeditated the murderbut that a sudden “flash” in his mind would have pushed him to take action. He also admits having developed a problematic obsession with women he perceived as unfaithful. According to his words, he voluntarily caused a situation of intimacy with Émilie before killing her.
