Six million Bouygues Telecom customer accounts affected by a cyber attack

Bank card numbers and account passwords are not impacted, however reassures the group.

Cybercriminals are not on vacation. The Bouygues Telecom group was the victim of a cyber attack leading to the data leak of “6.4 million Customer accounts »including IBAN, the company announced on Wednesday in a statement. Stolen data is “The contact details, the contractual data, the civil status data or those of the company if you are a professional, as well as the IBAN”she details in an email sent to her customers, consulted by AFP.

However, Bouygues specifies that “Bank card numbers and passwords of your Bouygues Telecom accounts are not impacted”. All the customers concerned have received or will receive this email or an SMS to inform them.

“This situation could expose you to fraud attempts: email or fraudulent calls. By using your data, a fraudster can pretend to be Bouygues Telecom or another company (bank, insurance …) and try for example to obtain additional information such as your bank card number or your identifiers and passwords ”underlines the operator on a dedicated internet page.

This cyber attack detected on Monday was resolved by the Bouygues Telecom teams, which has “Filed a complaint with the judicial authorities” and reported it to the National Commission for Data Protection (CNIL).
