South of Quebec | Heat and watch of violent thunderstorms

In force this Sunday: not one, but two weather warnings. In addition to overwhelming heat, showers and violent thunderstorms could fall on southern Quebec in the afternoon, warns Environment Canada.

The maximum temperatures will oscillate between 29 and 32 degrees Celsius in certain sectors of southern Quebec, including the metropolis, this Sunday. But with the humidex, the temperature felt will reach 40, until evening.

“The conditions are conducive to the formation of dangerous thunderstorms that can produce very strong gusts, large hail and torrential rain this afternoon and tonight,” explains Environment Canada, who issued a warning of violent thunderstorms on his website.

There is also a low risk of tornado, it is said.

It is therefore strongly advised not to practice nautical activities, as they could prove dangerous due to violent and sudden gusts on water bodies.

Environment Canada calls for caution because the hot and humid temperature has a high risk of heat -related discomfort. The organization advises to monitor the first signs of exhaustion, such as headaches, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine, or intense fatigue.

According to the organization, showers should stop overnight next night, but the heat will be felt for another several days. Until Wednesday, maximum temperatures will rise above 30 degrees Celsius, Montreal.

Smoke from Western Canada

Environnement Canada also issued a special alert on air quality, for regions of Nord-du-Québec and Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

“Smoke from Canadian meadows forest fires causes or may cause poor air quality and reduced visibility today,” said the body on their online platform. Air quality should improve tonight or on Monday, it is said.

Environment Canada recommends limiting the time spent outside when exposed to significant smoke concentrations, as this has several health risks. For this period, he advises to reduce or reorganize sports, activities or events provided outside.
