The facts occurred around 6 a.m., near the Torre Pacheco cemetery. Unlike the first hypotheses, it was not a flight but an assault intended to be filmed for social networks.

According to the victim, Domingo, a first young person attacked him without a word, hitting him violently in the face before others joined him to be kicked out on the ground. His pockets were searched, but his watch, of value, was not stolen. The assault therefore seems to be linked to a viral challenge encouraging to attack vulnerable people to gain online views. A video circulated, but the victim’s family said that it did not correspond to this attack, leaving other similar cases.

The Guardia Civil and the local police are conducting the investigation to identify the authors. The mayor, Pedro ángel Roca, announced the installation of surveillance cameras and requested a strengthening of the police presence.

When pain becomes a political weapon

The case was quickly recovered by far -right groups, broadcasting xenophobic messages. Domingo simply pointed out that his attackers “looked like young Maghrebians”, without identifying them. Groups like “Deport them now”, active on Telegram, called for “patrols” from July 15 to 17 to “do justice”.

Torre Pacheco, 40,000 inhabitants, 30 % of which are immigrants (mainly Moroccan), is at the heart of increasing tensions. Agricultural city of the Cartagena Campo, it is largely based on foreign workforce.

Friday, a rally against insecurity, organized on the town hall square under the slogan “Torre Pacheco, without violence, without crime”, degenerated, illustrating an increasingly tense climate.

Cries of “Children of Puta”, “Above Franco”, “Long live”, “To your country” et “I shit in your dead”clashes broke out between residents and people from outside. According to the police, some individuals involved in the clashes were not from Torre Pacheco, but went there specifically to disturb a rally initially peaceful.

The far-right Party Vox, known for its anti-immigration and nationalist positions, organized a rally denouncing “the terror sown by bands of Maghrebians in the municipality”. Conversely, Podemos, left training, asked the government delegation to prohibit mobilizations likely to stir up violence.

The government delegate in Murcie, Mariola Guevara, denounces hatred speeches manipulated by anti -System groups, based on unaccounts. Meanwhile, Domingo returns to him, physically stable but still marked.

New night of tensions in Torre Pacheco

A second night of violence made five light injured and an arrest, after xenophobic calls relayed on social networks. Groups from the outside have sought to cause clashes, according to the authorities.

A special system has been activated in an emergency, mobilizing 75 Guardia Civil agents. Other arrests are expected for hate facts, Torre Pacheco is now a safe security priority.
