The new season of Jupiler Pro League begins on Friday with an enticing union-Antwerp. Consultants like Chatelle, Defour and Mathijssen designate the Bruges club as a favorite for the title, despite some question points.
The Jupiler Pro League season is now about to start. Reigning champion, Union Saint-Gilloise will open the championship on Friday evening against Antwerp. It is of course still early, but some consultants have already lent themselves to the prediction game.
Thomas Chatelle thinks that the Bruges club is a favorite: “If I should only cite one name, I would say the club,” he said in the Belang Van Limburg.
“They have a huge lead on all other Belgian clubs, both sporting and financially. It remains to be seen which players they will sell again, and to what extent their new transfers will be a success.”
Steven Defour, former KV Mechelen and ex-player coach, notably Anderlecht, Standard and KRC Genk, also thinks of the Blauw in Zwart: “I put myself on the side of the Bruges club.”
“They will certainly lose a few players, but thanks to their excellent scouting unit, they will always have a good team. And this team is simply the best of the Jupiler Pro League,” adds Defour. Jacky Mathijssen, for his part, quotes three clubs.
“The Bruges club, the Union and Genk. In the three cases, certain changes have taken place, but the basis and the way of working remain identical, which gives them ahead of a lot of other clubs,” he said.
