For its second summer 2025 competition, the Javelin Throw Festival organized by AC Waasland, Nafi Thiam took fifth place in the javelin competition organized this Sunday afternoon in Saint-Nicolas. On the small Gerard Bonninki stadium bathed in sun, the triple Olympic champion launched 51.45 m during her first try, the only one beyond the 50 meters.
The rest of its competition was indeed concluded with attempts at 45.18 m, 49.63 m, and 47.41 m, its fourth and fifth trials having been bitten. It is the Italian Paola Padovan who won with 56.63 m.
The Nafi Thiam Belgium record (59.32 m) is already dates back to the 2017 season. Last year, it launched 53.00 m and 54.04 m at her two victorious heptaths at the Euro in Rome and at the Paris Olympic Games, and it had succeeded 52.61 m, in 2023, in Rmingen.
Nafi Thiam has signed a winning return: “I would like to be there for a few years”
The result she established this Sunday will not integrate her personal top 10 but for our heptathlonian, the essential was of course to take bearings in competition, on a complete momentum, in anticipation of the Tokyo World Championships which she is actively preparing.
Lausanne, next step
She also pointed out that it is when it really matters that she is able to deliver her best performance …
Recall that Nafi Thiam carried out his return, after a year of absence, during the recent Belgium championships. On August 2, she won the national title in length (6.48 m) at the end of a good competition before, the next day, to be less convincing (13.91 in series and abandonment in the final).
She will still align herself at the height jump on Wednesday August 20 in Lausanne, in Diamond League, before taking part in long jump during the van Damme memorial on August 22.
