Strong suspicion of an indigenous case of dengue in Belley (Ain): no situation

Context

On July 21, 2025, ARS Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes received the report for the suspicion of an Aboriginal dengue case in the town of Belley (Ain).

The samples are being analyzed by the National Reference Center for Arbovirus.

We speak of indigenous cases when a person has contracted the disease without having traveled in the contaminated area within 15 days preceding the appearance of symptoms. Dengue is transmitted from person to person through the bite of a tiger mosquitohimself infected with the virus.

If the case was confirmed, it would be 1is case of Aboriginal dengue in the Ain, and the 3e in the region. The other 2 indigenous cases were reported in Saint-Chamond, in the Loire.

In the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, between 1is May (start of reinforced surveillance) and on July 21, 2025, 97 dengue cas imported were recorded of which 9 in the department of Ain.

The actions carried out and programmed are only provided for in a restricted area, frequented by the Aboriginal case.

Demonstrate the sector

A demoustication operation, carried out by EIRAD, is scheduled for the night of Thursday 24 to Friday 25 July.

The objective of these treatments is to limit the risk of transmission to other people By eliminating larval lodges and adult mosquitoes, vectors of the virus.

Residents of the sector concerned were informed by a flyer placed in their mailbox. If the inhabitants have not received information in their mailbox, it is because their accommodation is not affected by these treatments.

Check if other people have been contaminated

This demoustication operation will be supplemented by an epidemiological survey, carries it on Tuesday, July 29. It will be led by ARS and Public Health Agents France (SPF), with residents of the district where the person concerned resides.

The objective is to ensure that people living in the sector have not been contaminated by a tiger mosquito bite, to make them aware of the symptoms of dengue and to indicate the driving to be followed in the event of symptoms.

On the other hand, the mayor of the town of Belley, the prefecture of Ain, and health professionals were also informed.
