The CNE Commerce made Tuesday an “unlimited” strike notice to denounce the government measures which it deems “catastrophic” for distribution workers.
The CNE Commerce is opposed, among other things, to the widening of store opening hours until 9:00 p.m. and the abolition of the compulsory period of 24 hours of closing, which would allow more openings on Sunday. The union also denounces a bill aimed at facilitating the annualization of working time, which would authorize, on the basis of a simple individual agreement, the days of up to 12 hours and weeks of 50 hours.
According to the CNE Commerce, these changes “brutally attack workers’ rights” in a sector already marked by precariousness. The union believes that opening more will not create “no quality jobs” but will accentuate the workload and will undermine “seriously” damage to employees.
The strike notice also constitutes “a warning” for employers’ federations, businesses and shopping centers. “If they decide to go into force, by not respecting the existing agreements and without advances for workers, the response will be strong and immediate,” warns the union.
