Survey broadcast by ISQ | Quebec television content is struggling to win young

Quebec television content is struggling to make their place in a landscape where continuous broadcasting platforms are multiplying, particularly among young people. Among the people who watch TV, less than one in four (23 %) above all looks at Quebec content.

This is what the Quebec survey on cultural and entertainment, conducted with 16,000 people aged 15 and over in 2024, reported by the Institut de la Constit du Québec (ISQ) on Monday.

The younger viewers, the less Quebec content they consume. Only 14 % of people aged 30 to 44 are mainly of Quebec content, a proportion that drops to 8 % among 15 to 29 year olds.

The ISQ reports, however, that almost everyone (97 %) looks at television content in the province, all modes of dissemination combined.

Quebec digital digital distribution platforms are not the most popular either.

The ISQ survey specifies that 73 % of people live in a household subscribed to a non -Quebec continuous broadcasting platform, compared to 28 % to a Quebec platform. Traditional television still occupies an important place, while 67 % of people are subscribed to it.

The landscape of music is experiencing a situation similar to that of television, while 40.8 % of people who listen to music consume mainly music by non -Quebec artists.

This trend is once again more marked among the youngest: 69 % of 15 to 29 year olds and 50 % of the 30 to 44 year olds listen mainly to music by non -Quebec artists, reports the ISQ. Moreover, 57 % of young people aged 15 to 29 listen mainly songs in English.

In the literary field, 37 % of readers in the province say above all to read books by non -Quebec authors, against 18.2 % who claim above all to read books by Quebec authors.
