An elected official wants to pay the women who join the army better
With less than 2% military women, the 10% target set for 2030 seems distant. Parliamentarians require better remuneration.

There are less than 2% of women in the ranks of the Swiss army.

Less than 2%: this is the share of women present in the ranks of the Swiss army. This figure is far from the 10% target by 2030 which had been set in 2020 by Thomas Süsslihead of the army, recalls the “Aargauer Zeitung», Relayed by «20 minutes».
According to Marcel Dobler, national councilor (PLR/SG), this is due in particular to the low remuneration proposed to people who engage while having a low percentage job or being at home, explains the elected representative to the media.
The newspaper gives the example of a majore, mother of two children, who receives the same amount as a simple recruit, around 70 francs per day of service, as well as family allowances. Even though this high ranking has completed almost a thousand days.
Higher remuneration could help
This situation concerns the elected Saint-Gallois, who asked the Federal Council to take measures. “Financial incentives must be put in place so that the pursuit of the military career is worth the sentence for women with a low occupancy rate,” he said. It is also supported by other politicians, on the left and on the right.
The Federal Council recalls that these allowances are only a replacement of the income affected in the civilian. He therefore does not consider that it is necessary to act, while admitting that a higher remuneration could make it possible to convince more people to engage more in higher army grades.
