The perspectives deteriorate in Suisse. After a slight increase in the previous month, the cyclical barometer compiled by the dedicated faculty of the Zurich Federal Polytechnic School has now reached its lowest level since the start of the year.
The KOF indicator fell 2.5 points to stand at 96.1 points, after 98.6 Revised points in Mayindicates the Center for Critical Research in its periodic publication on Monday.
It is below the forecasts of the economists surveyed by the AWP agency, which expected the cyclical barometer in June to between 96.5 and 99.5 points.
This negative development is reflected in most groups of indicators included in the KOF indicator. The manufacturing industry is notably subject to high pressure, while the negative perspectives are slightly attenuated by the group of indicators for foreign demand, which displays an improvement this month.
“Particularly strong” downward trend
With regard to the manufacturing industry, the undanticators relating to the general situation of companies show a “particularly strong” downward trend, is it specified in a press release.
Sub-indicators relating to the production activity, the constitution of stocks of intermediate goods, order books and stocks of finished products have also fallen. The prospects for the export sub-indicators are for their part “slightly positive, but practically unchanged”.
Published since 1970, the KOF cyclical barometer is calculated on the basis of the figures of the Federal Statistics Office (OFS) and the State Secretariat for Economy (SECO). It takes into account more than 500 variables.
