In Germany, the Chinese Temu Shopping Application has widened its assortment to food products. Customers can now buy sweets, drinks and fresh meat via the platform. This expansion is part of a strategy to further integrate local suppliers in Europe. This is what the “Tages-Anzeiger” reports.

To do this, TEMU is looking for European manufacturers of food products in order to diversify its offer. For example in Germany. There, TEMU works to encourage local merchants to also sell their products on the platform.

To do this, TEMU has started collaborators who are aimed at traders, with “sometimes aggressive methods”, as the German journal writes “Lebensmittelzeitung”. Recently, there is also a team that is targeted in a targeted manner to manufacturers.

The German company Wurstbaron already reports satisfactory sales via TEMU. The environment in which the products are presented leaves “a margin of progression”, but Temu convinces by good service, declares the boss at “Lebensmittelzeitung”.

The Swiss online sights of sight

TEMU also plans to set up on the Swiss food market. A company spokesperson confirmed that preparations were underway for the opening of the market, even if a concrete launch date has not yet been set.

Sector experts like Dagmar Jenni of the Swiss Retail Federation believe that TEMU is likely to soon offer food products in Switzerland, as the “Tages-Anzeiger” writes.

The sale of fresh food products has specific challenges, in particular with regard to the supply chain. In addition, TEMU fixes the sale prices of products, which could mean low prices for suppliers. A price comparison shows that offers on the German TEMU site are not necessarily cheaper than those of discounters like Aldi or Lidl.

The question is to know which Swiss companies will accept to collaborate with TEMU. Price fixing and conditions of the tender procedure could be decisive factors.
