Test ring outdoor cam plus: a surveillance camera that lets nothing pass

The Outdoor Cam Plus was particularly expected on the image quality, with regard to the first Ring Camera to film natively in 2K – more exactly images of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The associated perspective allows you to enjoy a 160 ° vision field. This is obviously not as much as what the Duo 3 can offer with its two integrated sensors side by side, but rare are the cameras to cover such an area. To unravel the darkness, an infrared vision completes the whole and Ring also offers a mode to bring out the colors in low light. An HDR mode is also provided for very important light deviations.

The new Ring camera is not entirely at the level of the Ezviz HB8 2K+, despite comparable sensors. Certainly, his images may seem more natural, but they bring out much less details. This is all the more true in areas with low contrast. The outdoor cam is more difficult to keep the darkest elements visible on a black background. Opposite, the Ezviz camera does not necessarily manage to capture finer details, but it brings out more in (AB) using accentuation.

Immersed in darkness, the outdoor cam almost instantly active his infrared vision and limits the risk of missing something. The image quality remains average. We find black bodies, but the level of detail is still a notch below what we can observe by day. The HB8 2K+ of Ezviz is once again on accentuation and highlights many more details overall, even more in areas of low contrast.

To hope to recognize an intruder on the images of the Ring camera, he will have to approach less than 3 m. We expect better from a camera intended for external use. We also note no gain compared to the Spotlight Cam Pro and its 1080p videos, while the HB8 2K+ had allowed us to recognize a face up to 4.50 m. We are still far from the best camera of our comparison in this exercise: the HB90, at Ezviz always, allowed us to recognize a face up to 8 m with its 2x zoom.
