Test the new functions available for AirPods, what you need to know

In mid-August 2025, Apple has deployed a new beta version of the firmware for its AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4, stamped 8A5343A. This firmware succeeds the previous beta dating from July and promises a better experience with the headphones.

As it had engaged, the apple brand opens its beta versions to users of its audio products. This allows you to test new features which will then be offered on a larger scale for all. During the WWDC 2025, Apple announced the arrival of two new functions for its AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2.

For a few days now, they have been available in the beta version of the firmware bearing the Build 8A5343A number. The latter replaces the 8A5324B version which dates from July 2025.

Automatic break when we fall asleep

One of the most notable novelties of this version concerns the user experience at the time of sleep. Indeed, the device is now capable of analyzing the behavior of the wearer using inertial sensors and is based on a contextual intelligence to detect the moment when the user falls asleep, then automatically putting audio playback in pause. This function should seduce people who listen to podcasts or music before sleeping, thus saving the battery and avoiding continuously prolonged broadcasts.

Audio recordings with better quality

Among the additions, the firmware also offers the management of an audio recording in studio quality. This improvement, made possible by the H2 chip of AirPods Pro 2 and the new BeamForming microphones, makes it possible to reach a much more precise vocal restitution during calls or recordings, including in noisy environments. According to Apple, this improvement is based on more efficient signal processing algorithms, opening up new perspectives for people who favor high -end audio.

Take photos from your airpods

With this new version of the firmware, Apple also strengthens the interconnection of its devices. Indeed, the AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2 can now remotely trigger the camera of an iPhone or an iPad thanks to a simple pressure on the headphones.

This gesture, already adopted on the Apple Watch, now extends to the AirPods family, therefore offering real ergonomics comfort for lovers of photography and video as well as for video content creators wishing to capture direct contactless scenes with their device.

By the way, note that this function is compatible with the official Apple application but also with certain dedicated third -party applications.

Go from one apple appliance to another gently and an optimized call quality

In addition, the automatic transition between the different Apple – iPhone, iPad, Mac, but also Carplay – products – benefits from a welcome optimization. The rocking is faster and more reliable, mainly when going from the sound of a car to that of headphones or vice versa for a more fluid experience.

Finally, for telephone communications, Apple also announces an updating of its vocal processing algorithms which are already very good. By relying on the intelligence of sound processing and reinforced material capacities, the Californian giant aims to rendering almost optimal voices, especially in high ambient noise contexts.

Please note, all these features remain experimental, however. They could be modified or even removed before the official deployment of the firmware.
