Howard Lunick said on Thursday that customs duties of 35% on several Canadian products would “surely” remain in force.

These products in question are those which are not included in the Canada-United States-Mexico (ACEUM) agreement.
The American Secretary of Commerce mentioned that these 35% customs rights are “still on the table” during an interview with Fox News, on the eve of the deadline of 1is august.
He also suggested that Prime Minister Mark Carney could still convince US President Donald Trump to retreat on these customs tariffs.

Recall that Donald Trump unveiled this imposition of customs tariffs on July 11 in a letter sent to Ottawa. Aluminum, steel and copper will be sectors hit hard by these customs duties.
On his other border, the American president granted a 90 -day stay in Mexico in the hours preceding the entry into force. The United States is still in negotiations with Canada.
Agreements have also been announced with the United Kingdom, the European Union, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan and South Korea.
