Interrupted Tuesday evening due to the violent fire which ravages the Corbières massif, traffic has resumed on the A9 motorway, which links France to Spain. The population remains nevertheless invited to limit their trips.
Traffic resumed on the A9 motorway, the main France-Spain road axis, after being interrupted Tuesday evening due to the gigantic fire which ravages the Corbières massif, announced the prefecture of Aude.
“The change of wind direction (…) allows us to reopen the highway,” the Aude Rémi Récio sub-prefect told AFP.
“Take the road only in the event of absolute necessity”
In a tweet, the Aude prefecture confirms that the A9 is “re-open to traffic at limited speed”.
“In order not to overload this axis and the secondary network, the population is invited to limit travel as much as possible and to take the road only in the event of absolute necessity,” said the message.
On Google Maps, the journey between Narbonne (Aude) and Girone, in Catalonia, which usually takes 1 hour and 45 minutes via the A9 motorway, was strongly disturbed. At 4 p.m. this Wednesday afternoon, Google indicated an indicative time of 3 hours and 30 minutes to make this journey.
