The AKDITAL Foundation has launched a series of medical caravans through the twelve regions of the kingdom, in order to strengthen access to specialized and local care, especially in the most vulnerable areas. It is in the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region that the campaign has officially started, through a series of medical caravans dedicated to the fight against non-transmitted diseases.
This campaign extends from May 30 to August 2, 2025 and includes several stages in different districts of the city of Dakhla. The first intervention, which was held from May 30 to June 1 at the Al Wahda health center in the Wakala district in Dakhla was already closed. This first medical caravan, focused on ophthalmology, cardiology and oncology, mobilized 56 participants from Akdital teams and its institutional partners.
In total, 653 specialized consultations were carried out, accompanied by 332 laboratory acts and 580 exploration acts. This initiative made it possible to strengthen the early screening of chronic diseases and to lay the foundations for structured medical follow -up for local populations.
The next stages will target during the month of July 2025 the inhabitants of the Essalam district, Al Massira district, Ghofran district, Al Amal and Al Mountazah districts.
In addition to these proximity interventions, other targeted caravans are being planned. They will target specific socio-professional categories and workers in industrial zones as well as craftsmen and fishermen. A mission is also planned in the Bir Gandouz region, under the province of Aousserd.
Diversified medical activities
During these caravans, various screening and awareness activities will be implemented. They will include the measurement of blood pressure, diabetes screening, the realization of electrocardiograms (ECG), biological assessments, mammography, cardiac ultrasounds as well as anatomopathology exams.
Two specialized mobile medical units accompany the caravan: one dedicated to mammography tomography and breast ultrasound and the other to ophthalmology and cardiology, making it possible to strengthen access to these exams in areas where these specialties are often little available. Patient targeting and orientation campaigns will also be driven upstream. These preventive operations aim to strengthen early detection of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and certain cancers, as well as prevention of blindness through ophthalmological consultations, while promoting sustainable health education among the populations concerned.
A human and united commitment
The AKDITAL Foundation sends its sincere thanks to all of its partners, in particular the regional department of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the regional and local authorities as well as health professionals, whose commitment has largely contributed to the success of these medical caravans and the momentum of solidarity deployed in favor of the populations of the South Provinces.
