The Belsevens finished sixth in the European Championship

The Belgian team at 7 women did not experience the best of weekends in Hamburg, during the second round of the Championship Series. Seventh, our compatriots finished sixth in the cumulative European classification. They will not compete in the Challenger Series next season.

Silver medalists from the Championship Series last year, the Belsevens could not do this season as well. This is not really a surprise where the team is in full transition with a change of generation in progress. Hanne Swiers also played the last tournament in her career in Hamburg. Nele Pien too decided to hang up as a national team at the end of a magnificent career.

In Hamburg, the Belgians coached this season by Warren Abrahams began on Friday with an unusual result in rugby 7: 0-0 against Portugal. They then dominated Italy (29-0) before undergoing the law of Great Britain (14-36) in the last group match on Saturday morning.

Third in his hen, the Belgian team found the British in the quarterfinals. With the same outcome at the end and a defeat (5-26) condemning Captain Pauline Gernaey and others to play the classification matches on Sunday.

Opposed to Germany, the host country, Belgium could not take over. They bowed (12-22) and therefore spun in the match for 7th place in the tournament. For a small revenge against the Portuguese. Except that this time, our representatives tore off the victory (21-14) to take leave on a positive note.

Seventh in Hamburg, the Belsevens finished sixth in the Championship Series season ranking. They are notably preceded by Poland but also the Czech Republic unlike points. They therefore narrowly lack the qualification for the Challenger Series next year. A first for several seasons.

Note that Great Britain is crowned European champion in front of Poland and France.
