The city of Bern is preparing to live a great football party on Friday with the meeting of the Women’s Euro opposing Switzerland to Spain. Thousands of fans will invest the capital which will remain awake overnight, the authorities having decreed free night.

(Keystone-ATS) The performance of the Swiss will be celebrated independently of the result of this quarter -final confrontation, the Bernese municipal authorities announced. The fan zone of the federal square will remain open until 12:30 am.

The procession of Swiss fans will start at 5.30 p.m. from the federal square. Between 15,000 and 20,000 supporters are expected. Before the Swiss-Island match, a procession of 14,000 people had wandered to Wankdorf, a record for a female euro.

Two processions

The procession of Spanish supporters will rush from the kramgasse. The two parades will follow the same route towards the stadium. They will cross the old town to the bear pit before raising the AargauStalden towards the Wankdorf.

Due to the holding of these processions, buses and trams will be deleted or will have to borrow deviations. Public transport users will have to expect an extended journey time. The Bernmobil company will also have to manage the arrival of thousands of spectators expected at the Gurten Festival.

Crowd on the federal square

Friday’s match will be played at closed counters. The area to follow the meeting in the federal place should also attract the crowd. Due to the expected crowds, access to the fan zone will be limited to two entry points, namely the Schauplatzgasse and the Bärenplatz.

Whatever the result of the match, the municipal authorities decreed a free night to salute the performance of the Swiss. Bars and restaurants will therefore be able to serve fans until the early hours of the morning.
