The Corsican Chamber of Agriculture requires “concrete measures”

Corsica can no longer wait“This Wednesday, July 23, Jean-Baptiste Arena, the president of the Corsican Chamber of Agriculture, accompanied by a delegation of farmers, went to the Departmental Directorate of Veterinary Services (DDSV) in Bastia.”Contagious nodular dermatosis (DNC), highly contagious viral disease affecting cattle, quickly gains ground in Italy and Sardiniahe said in a press release transmitted to our editorial staff. This morning, cattle were introduced into the territory (on the port of Bastia, editor’s note) without forty, despite the commitments previously made by the State.”

“We call for urgent mobilization of national authorities”

A situation that strongly worries farmers, insofar as, according to them, “No vaccine is currently available to protect the island livestock“, and where the only answer, in case of infection,”is the total slaughter of contaminated herds. This scenario would be catastrophic for our breeders, already weakened, and would jeopardize a whole section of our economy and our food sovereignty.”

As such, the president of the Chamber of Agriculture requires “explanations and concrete measures“With DDSV services:”We ask for the immediate judgment of any introduction of living animals on the island, the strict implementation of compulsory quarantines, a reinforced prevention and surveillance plan, and a clear and immediate commitment to the State with Corsican breeders. Our insularity is our only sanitary rampart today. Any negligence would be a serious fault with irreversible consequences. Faced with the threat of the DNC, we call for urgent mobilization of the national authorities.”
