The EU adopts an 18th package of sanctions against Russia

Donald Trump gave Russia a 50 -day ultimatum on Monday to end the war in Ukraine under penalty of severe sanctions, and announced a massive rearmament of kyiv through NATO.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky praised this announcement, saying that he was “grateful” towards his American counterpart “for his desire to support the protection of the Ukrainian lives”.

Donald Trump said he was “disappointed” by Russian President Vladimir Putin, behind the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. “I thought we would have an agreement two months ago, but that does not seem to materialize,” he said in the White House, alongside NATO secretary general, Mark Rutte.

“Consequently, we will set up secondary customs duties”, that is to say against the allies of Moscow. “If we do not have an agreement within 50 days, it’s very simple, (customs duties) will be 100% and that’s how it is,” he added.

Last year, Russia’s main trade partners were China, for some 34% of the total trade, as well as, to a lesser extent, India, Turkey and Bélarus, according to Russian customs.
