Dozens of people, including many children, fell ill following food poisoning at the E. coli bacteria in Saint-Quentin in Aisne. An 11 -year -old girl even died. Today, the victims want to understand. “Understand what happened, how it could happen, and especially who is responsible,” said La Dépêche du Midi Me Pierre Debuisson, Toulouse lawyer who represents three families.
For the lawyer, his mission is clear: “First, that children are recognized as victims, legally. […] And obviously those responsible are punished. And finally, that we prevent it from happening again, “he explained.
A family attacks the state
Another family of victims also announced to attack the state. Through the voice of her lawyer, Me Emmanuel Ludot, she points to insufficient health controls and the glaring lack of means in a department considered as one of the poorest in France. “There are accounts to be rendered,” warned the lawyer with BFMTV.
The children of this family, aged a few years, spent eight days in the hospital. If they do it physically, the psychological sequelae are there. Since then, they have refused to eat meat, note our colleagues from TF1 Info. The lawyer calls for the appointment of an expert doctor in order to estimate the damage for children.
An in progress in progress
“A bacteria like that, it never happens by chance, there are always multifactorial causes,” added Me Emmanuel Ludot. “The state cannot be explained on the checks it should have done,” he annoys.
For the time being, the authorities’ investigation has highlighted a direct link between poisoning cases and several local butchers, which have been closed as a precaution. The Paris prosecutor’s office took over the file, by opening an investigation for “manslaughter”, “involuntary injuries” and “endangering the health of others”. In total, 32 people were intoxicated.
