Recently, this world leader in the electrification and automation sectors announced an investment estimated at $ 130 million intended to combine the existing factories of Iberville and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu in a new and same production site.
“This investment ensures our positioning in Bromont. By ricochet, there will be positive long -term effects for our distribution center. ”
— Mike Shenouda, head of the division and managing director of installation products in Canada at ABB.
Established for 30 years in Bromont, the ABB distribution center currently has 95 employees.
“The objective of this investment is to ensure our growth and to increase the volumes which are treated in Bromont,” underlines Mr. Shenouda, in an interview with The voice of the East.
According to the manufacturer, the future ABB Canadian factory should be operational in the summer of 2027.
The new production center will support future growth in key sectors, such as public services, renewable energies, buildings and infrastructure across the country.
This major industrial project benefits from 16 million funding granted by Investissement Québec.
ABB currently has two distribution centers, the second being located in Terrebonne.
The ABB Installation Products Division serves all electrical distributors in Canada as well as all hardware stores and renovation centers.
ABB is known, among other things, for Iberville electric boxes, brown thread connectors and Ty-Rap cable ties produced up to 30 billion per year.
Local production in the face of customs duties
The manufacturer ABB does not seem to be severely affected by the application of customs duties on exports to the United States.
“ABB’s strategy is to produce its property near the customer’s request. For our installation products division, almost 80 % of the goods sold in Canada are manufactured in Quebec, ”says Mike Shenouda.
“We are trying to be as little affected as possible – by customs duties. The demand that is served is more Canadian than American, ”he says.
In Quebec, ABB operates six factories, two distribution centers and several sales offices in Canada. The grip has 3,300 employees in Canada including 2,500 in Quebec.
