The Minister to the Minister of the Interior, François-Noël Buffet, announced Thursday, July 31, the opening by the end of the year of 80,000 new places for driving license exam in order to shorten the waiting times.

“Faced with the strong current tension in the driving license examination places, the government takes rapid measures aimed at guaranteeing better access to this essential examination, especially for young people”he said in a statement.

Among these measures are notably the recruitment of 108 inspectors and the mobilization of retired inspectors, said Mr. Buffet on RMC. The minister did not wish to take“Commitment to the deadline”but he spoke of a period of one month “When the system is completely operational”.

Received in mid-July at the Ministry of the Interior, the driving school representatives then claimed that it would take 200 additional inspectors to reduce the average expectation of eighty days between obtaining the highway code and the practical exam. Very strong disparities exist between departments.

The government also wishes to improve the license success rate, which only amounts to 59 % in the first pass and therefore contributes to the engorgement of the process. “It is essential that the candidates presented to the exam have all the necessary achievements and that the examination is no longer experienced as a destabilizing test for many of them”said Mr. Buffet.

“With this plan, we provide an immediate response to the current crisis, while preparing an in -depth reform to improve the success rate without ever compromising security on our roads”he added.
