For the planet of course but also for health. Sleep is impacted, cardiovascular risks increases and, according to a recent study published in the journal Science of The Total Environmentthe intestinal microbiota for the elderly would also be put to the test. They exposed rodents of 12 weeks and 24 months to extreme heat and then carried out microbiota sequencing as well as intestinal integrity and immune function. Results ? The combined effects of aging and heat weakened the intestinal and immune functions of mice. These were then more likely to be infected by the bacteria Vibrio vulnificusmore and more present in hot ocean waters.
