In terms of Italian supercars, Lamborghini never lacked audacity. But what happened in January 2021 will be memories as one of the most unlikely episodes in the history of the brand: the arrival of a Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 of $ 3.2 million … delivered in the heart of New York, in a simple wooden box.
The scene takes place in front of the prestigious Manhattan Motorcars dealer. That day, passers-by did not believe their eyes: a huge wooden box deposited from a truck, manipulated by a forklift, and carefully placed on the sidewalk. Inside, not furniture or an industrial machine, but one of the rarest and most expensive supercars in the world.
Supercar out of your box
The video of the moment, filmed in particular by the YouTuber Supercar Heather, has become viral. We see the employees methodically removing the protections, dismantling the body, then removing the protective cover. And suddenly, the magic operates: a matt green flash, underlined with golden touches is revealed to the spectators.
It was a Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 painted in Verde Gea (a single matte green) with Oro Electrum accents (a gold metallic gilded), the very first delivered in the northeast of the United States.
As a reminder, the Sián marked an important turning point in the history of the Italian brand:
- Under its hood, the legendary V12 6.5 liters atmospheric of 774 hp,
- supported by a supercapacitor providing an additional 34 hp,
- Or 808 hp in total, making it the first Lamborghini V12 hybrid its time.
Unlike today’s hybrid cars which are mainly based on lithium-ion batteries, the Lamborghini Sián inaugurated in 2019 an unprecedented system based on a supercapacitor. Lighter and capable of recharging and delivering its energy instantly, it does not store a lot of electrical autonomy but offers an immediate boost of 34 hp to accompany the V12. An ingenious solution, thought not to reduce consumption, but to occasionally improve the performance and responsiveness of the supercar.
Only 63 cut copies and 19 roadsters were produced, which makes this New York scene even more exceptional. This model will greatly inspire the new Lamborghini Revuelto.
Four years later, this scene remains in the memories of automotive enthusiasts. It illustrates this mixture of extravagance and excess that makes Lamborghini’s reputation. Because if other brands deliver their models in a cozy silence, the firm of Sant’Agata Bolognese has managed to transform a simple delivery into an unforgettable urban performance.
