The levels of certain Swiss lakes are historically low – rts.ch

Because of drought, lakes from Eastern Switzerland are at historically low levels for the season, said Meteonews. Water also warms up everywhere in Switzerland, as in Lake Geneva which has seen its temperature climb 26 degrees.

High temperatures of the last days have aggravated the drying up and the drop in the levels of Lake Constance and Walensee.

The first in particular, located on the border with Germany, receives a very low volume of water from the Rhine, which has since the rest of the navigation between Diessenhofen (TG) and Stein Am Rhein (SH), Metononews on Friday.

Lakes that heat

The low volumes poured by rivers also partly explain the high temperatures of the Swiss lakes at the moment. In mid-June, Lake Geneva saw the temperature of its water climb to 26 degrees, 5 more degrees compared to the average of the last 41 years.

Neuchâtel lake follows the same trend with a little cooler water (25), but also an increase of five degrees compared to the average of this period.

The highest temperature raised by Meteonews is that of Lac de Lugano with 28 degrees, which corresponds to an increase of 5 degrees over the average of the last 41 years.

Drought also causes a fairly high risk of fire (3 out of 5) in certain regions, such as Valais.
