The measles makes its return to Morocco, Larache heavily impacted

In a context marked by an alarming increase in measles cases in the province of Larache, the Ministry of Health has dispatched a central commission in recent days to assess the situation on the ground, reports Al Akhbar in its edition of Thursday, July 3. This mobilization follows the fear of rapid propagation of the epidemic, especially among non-vaccinated children, and an imminent overload of local care structures, already weakened, in particular in rural and semi-urban areas.

According to sources quoted by the daily, this ministerial mission aims to strengthen the medical presence on site, to provide the teams with a field of follow -up tools and rapid intervention to stem the progression of the virus. However, local health authorities must face a worrying shortage of treatments, in particular vitamin A, an essential complement in the clinical management of measles. This deficiency, due to an exponential demand, has undermined the already proven health centers.

Larache medical teams have launched targeted containment and patient monitoring operations in order to limit contagion, especially in residential areas. The situation echoes that recently experienced in Tangier, where a similar flambé of measles had been recorded, arousing the concern of observers and the fear of a scenario identical to Larache.

In this context, a parliamentary group challenged the competent authorities, demanding clarification on the management of the file, the reasons for prolonged silence around this crisis and the concrete measures envisaged to limit the expansion of the disease.

Chefchaouen, another city in the north of the country, has not been spared in recent months: a similar outbreak has caused the death of a little girl in the town of Tamrout, causing a lively stir, especially in remote areas without adequate medical infrastructure. Faced with this situation, elected officials call for a firm and immediate government response: intensification of vaccination campaigns, strengthening of medical staff, supply of essential drugs, and guaranteed access to care for the most vulnerable populations.
