The new Ixelloise majority requires the reopening of the Fraiteur bridge to the cars in both directions: the cash response from Minister van den brandt

The return of a double -directed way of the Fraiter bridge in the boxes of the new majority of Ixelles: “no ideological taboo”

The Fraiteur Bridge has been one way since 2020 (from the cemetery to the plain) to improve the speed of the buses of line 71. This measure has generated trafficking in neighboring municipalities (Auderghem, Watermael-Boitsfort). It has aroused many arrests and requests for partial reopening. Since then, several tracks have been mentioned such as a limited reopening to residents authorized via ANPR cameras or the establishment of limited access zones.

Elke van den brandt open “to occasional adaptations”

We will remember that in June 2020, Geoffroy Kensier (the committed), then in the opposition, already asked for the reopening of the bridge in both directions. A petition launched three months ago has collected just over 1,000 signatures. During the election campaign of 2024, the outgoing bourgmestre Christos Doulkeridis (Ecolo) denounced the impact of commuters on the life of the Ixellois. “The bottling problems have existed for many years. We had two thirds of commuters who passed through the cemetery district, through the Fraiteur Bridge,” he explained on BX1.

Elke van den brandt applauds the effects of the one -way of the Fraiteur bridge: “I would involve anyone who would put this gain to borrow line 71”

Recognizing in the process that the situation was not optimal for the Ixellois. “The measure is not satisfactory today because it also penalizes the inhabitants, which was not the objective. […] “As a bourgmestre, our objective is to ensure that the inhabitants of Ixelles can go through the Fraiteur bridge without being bored by the measure taken while allowing the 71 to circulate”had concluded Christos Doulkeridis last September.

In charge of the file, the Brussels Minister of Mobility Elke Van Den Brandt (Groen) does not adhere to the position of the Ixelian majority. “”The one -way of the Fraiteur Bridge has made it possible to drastically improve road safety but also to gain 4 minutes online on line 71. As already discussed with the municipality, I remain open to adaptations of the situation, to certain users. I am therefore surprised by the will of the commune of Ixelles to unilaterally demand the return in double sense of this regional road, to the detriment of the 500,000 annual travelers who take this line. “
