The number of hotel nights should still have increased in July. The month was marked by the arrival of Euro women’s football fans in Switzerland.
The increase should have reached 1.9% over a year last month, according to the first estimate of the Federal Statistical Office (FSA) published on Monday. The share of international visitors should have won 2.2%, when that of Swiss tourists should have grabbed 1.5%.
At the end of July, Switzerland Tourism shared a very satisfactory occupation rate in the hotels’ of the host cities of the Women’s Euro. In Saint-Gall, hoteliers were delighted with an exceptionally high occupancy rate ‘from 95% to 100% on match days. Bern posted an average filling rate of hotels has reached 83%. The increase in the number of hotel nights was expected from 5% to 10% in Basel and 2% in Lucerne.
July should therefore participate in the growth of the sector posted since the start of the year. From January to June, the Swiss hotel industry recorded 20.4 million nights, up 1.4%.
The OFS will publish a second estimate on August 25 and then the final figures from January to July on September 5.
