The Parti Québécois promises to substantially decrease the number of asylum seekers who tread the Quebec soil if he took power in 2026.
This is the message launched at a press conference Thursday by the leader of the Paul St-Pierre Plamondon party, in the wake of the by-election in Arthabaska.
Flanked by his candidate, Alex Boissonneault, the PQ chief recalled that 750 new asylum requests were made at the border post of Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle between July 1 and 6.
This pace, according to him, puts unbearable pressure on the public services of the province and on the linguistic integration capacity of these people.
The PQ believes that the stake constitutes a real concern in the population and risks turning the province in an uncontrollable situation, such as that observed in certain European countries.
