The president of Bombardier CA had trees cut to improve his view of Lake Brome, denounce citizens

The president of Bombardier CA had a hundred trees cut off on public land in front of his sumptuous residence in Estrie, sowing the indignation of citizens who accuse him of having acted to improve his view of Lake Brome.

Pierre Beaudoin, who has signed on the board of directors of the Quebec Fleury of Aeronautics since 2004 and who was the CEO from 2008 to 2015, has a sumptuous house valued at $ 7.8M overlooking Lake Brome.

Last winter, he hired the EGH incorporation company inc. To intervene on trees located on a small island separating its lake land on which a path passed very popular with cyclists and walkers passes.

It is precisely on this small island, crossed long by a path, that a hundred trees would have been cut.

This island belongs to the municipality of Lac-Brome.

The result horrified several citizens, who have started to notice, in recent months, that trees had been stated, that is to say that they have been cut at about half of their trunk.

“We no longer have a shadow on the path. It is a place where a lot of people works. I counted 97 cut trees, ”says Marc Pelletier, resident of Lac-Brome.

“It’s awful. It makes no sense. We come here to be in nature, ”deplores the Montrealer Suzanne Lemire, met on the path.

To release your sight

Several citizens encountered by The newspaper Consider that Mr. Beaudoin had these trees cut, because they obstructed his view of the lake. Photos show that the new size of the trees seems to be aligned with the house, located on a slope.

“When you go to the lake, it is obvious. It is as if he had made a window, ”said Jacinthe Grondin, a citizen who came to express his dissatisfaction at the municipal council on Monday evening.

The session attracted a hundred people, about five times more than usual, and the majority of the questions focused on the trees cut on the island.

But the mayor Richard Burcombe had no answers to give on this file, in addition to it was “under analysis” and that it would still take several weeks for the public to know anything. This is also what he answered questions from Journal.

Justin Meloche of the national public relations firm, hired to represent Pierre Beaudoin and the EGH company, maintains that the city has issued a permit allowing what was done on the island, an operation which aimed to “maintain” the trees, according to its declaration. City employees would even have facilitated the operation on site by opening doors leading to the bridge, he said.

“We would like to emphasize that no offense was committed in the context of this operation, which was carried out transparently, in accordance with the license issued,” said Mr. Meloche.

However, the permit, a photo of which has been transmitted to Journal By Mr. Meloche, only quotes Mr. Beaudoin’s land and does not mention any land belonging to the municipality.

“Terrible work”, says an emonderer

Jean-François Cloutier, emonderer and president of the company Pro-health trees, was shocked when The newspaper showed him photos of the cut trees.

“It’s appalling. Even if I was given $ 100,000, I would never do a job in the same way. Last year, I refused for about $ 20,000 for requests for trees. ”

He even describes this technique of “disguised slaughter”, since it compromises the survival of the tree.

“The disease, the rot settles down. Instead of shooting them in 20 years, we may shoot them in five years. It’s really harmful. It is not the maintenance of trees. ”
