La Poste announced this Monday, July 28, that the green stamp price will increase to 1.52 euros on January 1, 2026, against 1.39 euros currently.
The postage price of letters and packages will increase on average by 7.4% on January 1, 2026, with in particular an increase of 9.35% for the green letter for daily shipments, which will increase to 1.52 euros against 1.39 today, the post on Monday to AFP on Monday, July 28, said on Monday, July 28.
The public group justifies this net increase in the prices of postage through the need “to ensure the sustainability of the universal postal service with high quality” while the continuous decrease in the number of letters transported has reduced La Poste income for years. Last year, these prices increased on average by 6.8%.
An annual loss of “500 million euros”
La Poste has just been renewed for ten years in its mandate as a postal universal service provider, which notably guarantees a distribution six days a week. But it is chronically faced with the attrition of mail.
Each year, it loses “500 million euros in turnover” for this reason, liked to recall the CEO of the company Philippe Wahl, now the acting presidency of the board of directors of the public group, which achieved 34.6 billion euros in turnover in 2024.
Its public service missions (distribution of mail and press, regional planning, banking accessibility) are not fully funded by the State.
This subcompmentation cost the postalist 1.2 billion euros in turnover in 2023, according to Philippe Wahl. Thus, on January 1, 2026, the price of a registered letter of 20g will be increased from 5.74 to 6.11 euros. That of the Plus SERVICE letter, for sending important documents, will drop from 3.15 to 3.47 euros. The price of the Red E-Lettre, for urgent shipments distributed the next day, will be increased from 1.49 to 1.60 euros. The price of the international letter up to 20g will be increased from 2.10 to 2.25 euros.
28 euros on average per cleaning
La Poste stresses that customers of the online service of stamps to print at home (Montimbrenligne) will benefit from discounts “according to the weight of their letter compared to the classic public price”. Finally, the prices of the Colissimo sent by individuals will increase on average by 3.4% all destinations combined (France and International).
The rise in prices will however not lead to an increase in “household budget” for postal services, argues La Poste: “In 2025, the budget of a household in postal products represents 28 euros per year on average”. However, “taking into account the drop in mail dispatch, this expenditure in postal products should be displayed in decrease of 6% in 2026”, she argues.
