The Prime Minister of Cambodia announced Thursday to support Donald Trump’s candidacy for the Nobel Peace Prize, praising the “visionary and innovative diplomacy” of the American president who, according to him, made it possible to put an end to border clashes with Thailand.

This candidacy was already supported by Pakistan in June, and by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last month.
In his letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said he wanted to appoint Donald Trump “in recognition of his historical contributions to the advancement of world peace”.

Cambodia and Thailand were both faced with exorbitant American customs duties on their exports when Trump intervened in the conflict, the deadliest to have ravaged their border region for more than a decade.
They finally obtained a reduction in levies to 19% last week, thus avoiding the high rate of 36% which he had threatened to apply to both.

The appointment must be filed before January 31, for an announcement on October 10 this year.
For some foreign leaders, mentioning the prestigious prize has become a sign of a diplomatic good will towards Donald Trump, who praised his skills in negotiations as a world peace craftsman.
In the coming days, President Trump must meet the Russian leader Vladimir Putin for a summit, the Kremlin said on Thursday, continuing his negotiations for a peace in Ukraine.
