The breakage of equipment from the Royal Canadian Gendarmerie (RCMP) triggered a forest fire on Tuesday in British Columbia.
“I can confirm that around 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday, a break of equipment on a trailer caused accidental ignition of the forest fire IZİUM CREEK (K70783), located on Highway 12 near Lytton, ”confirmed the Kris Clark staff sergeant, in an email communication.
The right wheel of a trailer would have detached itself, which would have caused a fire in the lawn which was in a ditch, according to information transmitted by Sergeant Clark.
“The agent immobilized to turn off the flames using his fire extinguisher, but the conditions were unfavorable and he was unable to contain the fire,” he also explained.
The agent involved was part of the underwater recovery team and was in the sector to participate in the searches of a missing swimmer in the waters of Lake Seton, according to the RCMP.
“It is an extremely unlucky set of circumstances that demonstrate the importance of being extremely cautious during our long season of forest fires,” said Sergeant Clark.
An evacuation order was launched for the Thompson-Nicola regional district, and an evacuation alert was issued for the Lytton First Nation.
The forest fire would extend over around 130 hectares, according to BC Wildfire Service.
