What is known about the Israeli strike on the Nasser Hospital in the Gaza Strip
Four journalists working for international media were killed Monday morning in Israeli strikes on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younès, in the south of the Gaza Strip, which left a total of 15 dead, announced the civil defense of the Palestinian territory. Questioned by the Agency France-Presse (AFP), the Israeli army replied that it was checking this information.
According to Mahmoud Bassal, the spokesman for the Civil Defense, the first strike was led by an explosive drone, before an aerial bombardment that took place while the injured were evacuated. Mr. Bassal also mentioned the death of a caregiver.
The Al-Jazira channel announced the death on the spot of one of her photojournalists and reporter of images, Mohammad Salama, two weeks after she lost four journalists and two freelancers, in a targeted strike from the Israeli army who accused one of them to be an active member of the Army Branch of the Palestinian Islamist Movement Hamas.
The Canado-British news agency Reuters said one of the journalists killed was the cameraman Hossam Al-Masri, who worked for her. Photographer Hatem Khaled, also employed by Reuters, was injured in a second strike, said the authorities.
The American agency Associated Press (AP) said that another journalist killed, Mariam Dagga, collaborated with her, but that she was not on a mission for the agency at the time of the facts.
The Palestinian journalists’ union also reported the death of four journalists, indicating the three aforementioned names as well as that of Moaz Abu Taha. According to an AFP journalist in Gaza, he also worked for Palestinian and international media.
Several people injured, some blood covered, were taken care of at the hospital after the strikes, noted an AFP photographer on the spot. The Nasser Hospital is one of the last health establishments that are still partially functional in the Gaza Strip.
The Civil Defense listed a total of 27 dead in the early afternoon in shots or strikes from the Israeli army on Monday throughout small Palestinian coastal territory.
