Support over -indebted people, yes, but not at any cost. For the right, the government’s project penalizes the creditors too much. The debtors could erase their slate in three years. Extending this period sends a bad signal, according to the left.

(Keystone-ATS) This point of the reform of the Federal Council divides. The majority of the right revised the project in the committee in early July.

Over -indebted people must be able to make a clean sweep by declaring bankruptcy, according to the government. Their debts would be deleted after three years. Condition: Consulting the vital minimum and paying the rest of your income to creditors.

Such a system is too disadvantageous for the latter which will not be reimbursed enough, according to the bourgeois camp. “By extending the period at five years, we can hope to put 20,000 more francs in the cash register,” said Philippe Nantermod (PLR/VS).

The left denounces “stinking” maneuvers. Parliament must look at the reform in September.
