In Brussels, the Stib provides a minimum service. Metros, trams and bus will circulate in a very disturbed way. It is strongly advised to opt for alternatives such as bicycle, walking or carpooling. Same story on the TEC side, in Wallonia, where the lines may be strongly disturbed. The SNCB, on the other hand, will not directly suffer the strike, but overloads are expected on certain lines towards Brussels.
Two demonstrations are planned in the capital. The main one will take place between Gare du Nord and Gare du Midi, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., paralyzing several central axes. A second static action is planned Place Poelaert, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Police recommends avoiding the city center by car during these rush hours.
Strong disturbances to be expected on the Stib network on June 25 with the day of national action
Strikes that are not unanimous
Today, after the numerous episodes of strikes experienced by Belgium since the new federal government began its implementation, support for protest movements seems far from being unanimous. A quick probe shot launched by the last hour tells us that opinion even seems to be very divided on the issue. On DH’s social networks, we asked the question: “Do you support the day of national action carried out on a union front this Wednesday, June 25?”. Of the more than 900 votes collected, 49 % responded yes, while the remaining 51 % responded no.
But the main question for thousands of Belgians is the following: will vacation departures be disrupted this summer? The threat of seeing airlines or airport staff still scares travelers.
The medical unions file a strike notice for July 7: “the ultimate means of making the minister understand that it is unacceptable”
“A question of days”, at Charleroi airport
On the unions side, we want to be reassuring currently, at least with regard to strike movements at Ryanair or Brussels Airlines. “A priori, we will not launch anything, says Didier Lebbe, permanent secretary CNE. At present, there is no hot file. We are still busy with the work regulations on the side of Ryanair, but it is not likely to trigger a short -term strike. There are on the other hand a few concerns on the side of the Baggivers and the Security in Charleroi, because the situation is a bit tense.”
Please note if you have to return to Belgium on June 25: barely 103 on 261 flights planned will be insured in Brussels Airport
To tell us more, Michel Gretzer, permanent CSC Transcom, gave us his impressions of the field. “”More than a month ago, I had already denounced a worrying situationhe begins. I made concrete acts, based on claims coming directly from workers, to report deep discomfort on well-being at work. Currently, we can no longer grant leave until October. Some points are already going back to October 2024 because the situation was catastrophic after last summer. We discussed it again this weekend: there is a real lack of workforce. I am surprised that the delegates have not yet obtained a meeting with the new management. It’s time to get around the table, otherwise it won’t keep.“
Wednesday national strike: the collection of garbage cans may be strongly disrupted
The airport is only due to the will of workers
The message is clear: the strike broods. “”If they continue to turn a deaf ear, it will be inevitable … I will meet the teams. There are workers really to the limit. They no longer have family life and sometimes work 23 days a month. They cannot take vacation, nor go on vacation, because of the lack of workforce. We will end up with absences for illness, and it will be a disaster for everyone. It is not for lack of warning! At one point, I can only note that the pressure becomes too strong, and actions will be takenhe advances. When ? It may be just a matter of days! However, this is really not what we want, I assure you. We want people who work all year round can go on vacation. But today, the airport is only due to the goodwill of the workers. There was not even a reserve set up for the high season. One wonders how it still works as well … it is only thanks to the quality of workers. They are the best in Europe! “
And on the side of Zaventem airport? The situation seems calmer, but we have been able to observe workforce problems several times in recent years. “”Recruitment took place, but I’m afraid that it is not enough. And if the pressure is too strong, given the expected crowds, a movement could quickly start“, says an internal source.
