The CCRI declared the illegal strike after the federal government invoked article 107 of the Labor Code to force the two parties to submit to enforceable arbitration.
The national president of the SCFP, Mark Hancock, indicates that, although the union is very united of the Canadians affected by the strike, the members of the union “will not resume work this afternoon”.
At a press conference at Pearson International Airport in Toronto on Monday in the middle of the day, he added that the union not only defends the interests of on -board agents, but also the right to collective negotiation in Canada.
Earlier Monday, Prime Minister Mark Carney urged the two parties to quickly resolve the situation that causes major chaos for travelers, while the Federal Minister of Employment, Patty Hajdu, is expected to take stock this afternoon.
Air Canada intended to resume its flights on Sunday, but was prevented by the union’s decision from continuing its strike despite the CCRI order. The airline said on Monday that some 500,000 people were affected by the cancellation of flights.
