Tadej Pogacar was not the strongest, Sunday, July 27, during the final stage of the Tour de France 2025. But that will not take much out of the impression of superiority left by the Slovenian throughout the three weeks. At the end of a last day which saw the solo victory of the Belgian Wout Van Aert (Visma-Lease A Bike), the leader of the UAE Team Emirates-XRG team won the big loop for the fourth time, with an advance of more than four minutes on the Danish Jonas Vingegaard.
Despite the decision of the organization of the race to freeze the times of the general classification 50 kilometers from the finish, because the rain made the road slippery, Tadej Pogacar did not stop attacking to try to win a fifth stage victory. He who has not hidden his weariness over the steps will have to be satisfied with four bouquets.
What to remember
Cador: Wout van Aert
Quickly released in mountain stages, unable to make the difference in those reserved for sprinters: for 20 days, the Tour de France of Wout Van Aert looked like a small ordeal. But the Belgian had the merit of not letting go to afford a second triumph over the Champs-Elysées, four years after the first.
Who says last stage of the Tour de France, says traditional parade to join Paris. For long kilometers, the attacks, escaped and other borders were replaced by photo sessions, smiles and champagne cuts. Nothing to report therefore, apart from a decision of the race organization: she decided in the afternoon to freeze the times 50 kilometers from the finish, due to the rain making the end of the course dangerous, and in particular the three passages on the Butte Montmartre.
Once the capital has been reached and this famous barrier of the 50 kilometers exceeded, many runners have chosen to finish at their own pace. As for the others, they tried to interfere in the struggle for stage victory, truly opened by Julian Alaphilippe (Tudor). The Frenchman launched hostilities during the first visit to the mound, but quickly bowed once his opponents joined him and increased the pace their turn.
Yellow jersey on his back, Tadej Pogacar continued to accelerate at each climb, to amaze the group of courageous after turn under the flood. They were only five by his side during the last passage in front of the Sacred Heart, including Wout Van Aert. Author of a disappointing tour, the ex-green-green did better than resist during the last passage by rue Lepic, since he raised his tone in turn to distance the Slovenian. Alone in the middle of avenue des Champs-Elysées, the Belgian could savor a last successful day.
And he returns a lot at the time of the balance sheet of this 2025 edition. Four is the number of coronations of Tadej Pogacar on the event (2020, 2021, 2024 and therefore 2025), in six participations. It is also the number of victories of stages gleaned by Slovenian this year. It is finally the gap in minutes (4 min 24 s precisely) which separate it from its runner -up in the general classification, the Danish Jonas Vingegaard.
“It was crazy despite the rain. It was an incredible resonance box. »» Questioned by France Télévisions on arrival, Kévin Vauquelin (Arkéa-B & B Hotels), best French in the general classification (7e), enjoyed the addition of the mound montmartre on the layout of this 21e stage. Thousands of people were massaged, despite the rain that fell on the capital, to applaud the peloton.
Despite the freezing of the ranking 50 kilometers from the finish, some Tour cadors dreamed of a prestige success on the Champs-Elysées and hosted the day of their attacks. And while the stage seemed promised to Pogacar, an outsider with the awards already well supplied came to thwart the forecasts by winning alone. So many adventures that push us to put the note of “B” at this stage, on our rating scale ranging from “a” to “e”.
