The surrounding function to seek will be able to translate from the text in motion

The famous function surrounds to find should soon accommodate a new option. Called Live Translate, it will translate text in motion, as in GIFs or videos.

“Surround to seek” has imposed itself as one of the flagship functions when launching Samsung Premium Galaxy S24 smartphones. For those who do not know it, it allows you to surround an area of the screen in order to launch a Google search concerning it. It is a quick and practical way to search by taking into account everything that is present on the screen, which makes research more relevant. Google has since gradually extended this option to its Pixel smartphones, then to other brands and models of smartphones.

In order to reach an ever wider audience, Google is developing a new function for its tool, as discovered by the Android Authority teams who have managed to activate its test version. If, initially “surrounding to seek” makes it possible to translate a static text, this improvement, called “Live Translate”, ie “Live translation” in French, will also allow the translation of text in motion, for example the text displayed by a video, a web or a GIF.

Surround to find: a new live translation function

This function is still in development, it is therefore imperfect, but it still gives a good overview of the potential of the function. This also means that, when it is officially released, the final rendering may be different. To use it, press the application drawer to surround to search and select Live Translate. A pop-up then appears to find out if the user wants to save the whole screen of the smartphone or only certain applications. The function activates then, with a new animation and a rainbow gradient on the edges of the screen.

A floating pill, which can be moved on the screen or retracted on the side, makes it possible to modify the language in which translate. It also offers a cropping function, which probably translates the text of a part of the screen only, but it does not work at the moment. Finally, there is a button to stop the translation live and return to the classic interface to surround to search.

To find out if your smartphone supports the surround function to find, you can refer to the Android Authority list, which lists all compatible Android mobiles, and that we will put here:
